We all do fade as a leaf, indeed. Something richer and more interesting to the fading of a leaf than a flower, I'd say. This is an extra large one, which lends what feels like quite a bit of gravitas to the pronouncement, too. And embroidered in metallic gold beads, which furthers that sense of weight, and which themselves have surely darkened/tarnished a bit over the many years of its life, all to the good. A most frame-worthy one--either with the white silk ribbon fully outstretched, its ends toned and fraying, which feels pretty poignant, or with the ribbon tucked under, making it feels a bit more as if in conversation with Jenny Holzer!
Embroidery area: 8 1/2" x 2 1/18". Overall (ribbon fully outstretched: 18" long.) Embroidery itself in very good antique condition, just a little scattered toning spotting to the paper, no losses to the beading. Ribbon show spotting and heavier staying/toning/fraying toward the ends as documented. Better than photos, feels brighter and with a very strong visual punch in hand. Mid 19th century I believe.
